What "M16" Actually Means

The "M16" refers to the 16 mm metric thread (M16 × 0.75 or M16 × 1.5) on the coupling nut. It's a standardized circular connector family covered by IEC 61076-2-106 (and the older DIN/AISG C091 lineage), so parts from Binder, Amphenol, and most Chinese OEMs are mechanically interoperable.

M16 vs M12 (the question everyone asks)

M12 wins on space and ecosystem. But once you pass 8 pins, or want >5 A on a power contact, or need a chunkier thread for gloved-field mating, M16 stops being "oversized" and starts being "right-sized."

Rule of thumb: if your cable has more than 8 conductors or a power pin pushing past M12's comfort zone, don't force M12 — step up to M16.
It's not the flashiest connector in the drawer, but for dense signal bundles in wet, noisy, vibrating enclosures, the M16 is quietly one of the best value-for-footprint choices in the M-series.
